A combination of the ongoing extreme to exceptional drought and abundant cured fuels will continue to drive elevated wildfire threat across Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley this week. As Smokey Bear says, Only You Can Prevent Wildfires!

Wildfire spread potential will continue over all or parts of the RGV/Deep S. Texas ranchlands through the weekend, as heat, extreme to exceptional drought, and occasionally gusty winds, especially today and Saturday. Remember, most wildfires are preventable.
