August of 2024 followed the previous months of summer, in which a meandering ridge of high pressure across the Rockies brought periods of very warm temperatures, as well as periods of abundant available moisture, heavy rainfall and cooler temperatures to portions of south central and southeast Colorado. For the month of August as a whole, above normal temperatures and generally below normal precipitation across south central and southeast Colorado, save for above normal precipitation to areas along and west of the Continental Divide.

This is 2.9 degrees above normal and makes August of 2024 the warmest August on record in Alamosa, surpassing the previous record high average August temperature of 66.0 degrees set in 2011. The average August maximum temperature in Alamosa was 83.0 degrees, which is 2.5 degrees above normal. The average August minimum temperature in Alamosa was 49.2 degrees, which is 3.4 degrees above normal. Alamosa recorded 1.80 inches of precipitation through the month of August. This is 0.51 inches above normal and makes August of 2024 the 14th wettest August on record, though well behind the 5.40 inches of precipitation which fell in August of 1993. Alamosa set 4 daily record high temperatures in the month of August, including the 92 degrees on August 5th, which ties the monthly record high temperature for the August of 92 degrees set on August 20th of 2020. This is 1.8 degrees above normal and makes August of 2024 the 8th warmest August on record in Colorado Springs, though is remains well behind the warmest August of 2011 when the average monthly temperature was 74.1F. The average August maximum temperature in Colorado Springs was 85.4 degrees, which is 1.8 degrees above normal. The average August minimum temperature in Colorado Springs was 58.8 degrees, which is 1.8 degrees above normal. This 3.0 degrees above normal and makes August of 2024 the 7th warmest August on record in Pueblo, which is well behind the warmest August of 1970 when the average monthly temperature was 79.8 degrees. The average August maximum temperature in Pueblo was 93.2 degrees, which is 3.0 degrees above normal. The average August minimum temperature in Pueblo was 62.3 degrees, which is 2.9 degrees above normal. Pueblo recorded 0.81 inches of precipitation through the month of August. This is 1.30 inches below normal and makes August of 2024 the 28th driest on record, still well above the driest August of 1900 when a trace of precipitation was recorded in Pueblo.
