It was a cold end to 2017 and start to 2018 with morning low air temperatures from -15 to -26. Wind chill temperatures ranged from -25 to -41, with a 1050mb arctic high pressure center overhead. A new record low of -26 occurred at Norfolk, NE on January 1, which broke the previous record of -25 set in 1924. A new record low of -20 occurred at Omaha, NE on January 1, which broke the previous record of -19 set in 1887. A new record low temperature of -14 also occurred in Omaha on 12/31 New Year's Eve, and a cold record low maximum temperature of -6 occurred in Norfolk on 12/31.
