Hot and humid conditions will persist today with the greatest potential of heat indices around 100 generally south of US 30. Northern locations will likely see heat indices top out in the lower 90s due to the presence of greater coverage of Canadian wildfire smoke. Scattered showers and storms expected Friday and Saturday with a potential of a few strong storms Saturday as cold front approaches.
Smoke from wildfires in Canada is working its way south into the Great Lakes region over the next couple of days. Air quality is expected to be Unhealthy for fine particulates (PM2.5) and Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups for ozone. Visibility may also be reduced at times if smoke can mix down to the surface.
