Clear and Cooler Temperatures Across Much of the Eastern U.S.; Heavy Rain in Florida

A high pressure system is bringing mostly clear skies and cooler temperatures across much of the eastern U.S. to the Mid-South. A stationary front will produce thunderstorms and heavy rain across the Florida Peninsula to the immediate Southeastern coast. Planning to be outdoors today or Wednesday across the Northern Rockies? Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Lightning, brief heavy rain, and gusty outflow winds will be the primary concerns.
A cooler and showery period is expected across the region from Thursday, September 11th through Sunday, September 14th. Here’s what you can expect: 🌡️ Cooler Temperatures: Highs will return to more seasonable levels, with most valleys seeing temperatures in the upper 60s to 70s. 🌧️ Significant Rain Event: Confidence is increasing for a beneficial rain event, especially Thursday through Friday. -50 to 70% Chance of seeing 0.50′′ or more of rain for North-Central Idaho, West-Central Montana, and Northwest Montana. -20 to 40% Chance for Southwest Montana and Lemhi County, Idaho. -There is a low (20-30%) chance for rainfall totals to exceed 1.00′′ in parts of North-Central Idaho and Northwest Montana. 🌬️ Improving Air Quality: The best news for many will be the significant improvement in air quality as this system helps to clear out lingering wildfire smoke.
