...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CDT SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...A portion of central Louisiana, including the following
  parishes, Avoyelles, Evangeline and St. Landry.

* WHEN...Until 600 PM CDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
  and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads
  remain closed due to flooding. Streams continue to rise due to
  excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Expect many areas of slow
  moving or standing water. It will take several hours for all the
  water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in
  urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 1157 AM CDT, gauge reports indicated heavy rain due to
    runoff and standing water from previous excessive rainfall.
    Flooding is already occurring in the warned area.
  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
    Melville, Palmetto, Morrow, Bayou Current, Port Barre,
    Lebeau, Big Cane, Goudeau, Dupont and Whiteville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams.
Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

* WHERE...Calcasieu River near Glenmora.

* WHEN...Until late Sunday morning.

* IMPACTS...At 12.0 feet, When the river is falling and the gauge
  reading is forecast to be near 12 feet, flooding of forested areas
  near the river will occur.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 9:45 AM CDT Friday the stage was 12.8 feet.
  - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
    ending at 9:45 AM CDT Friday was 13.3 feet.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 12.8
    feet this afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage
    early Sunday morning.
  - Flood stage is 12.0 feet.

DISCUSSION...
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop again
this afternoon and evening across parts of northeast Oklahoma and
northwest Arkansas. A few of the storms will likely become
severe, with large hail and damaging winds being the main severe
weather threats. Locally heavy rainfall will likely result in
additional flooding concerns given the already saturated soils
from earlier rainfall this week.

Afternoon heat index values will climb to near or slightly above
100 degrees today in a few spots in eastern Oklahoma and west
central Arkansas.

EXTENDED DISCUSSION...
Showewrs and storms may linger into early Saturday before ending.
Hot, humid, and breezy conditions are then expected for the rest
of this weekend through much of next week. Afternoon heat index
values will likely exceed 100 degrees in many places Saturday
through Thursday and heat headlines may be needed across parts of
the forecast area through much of next week. Low thunderstorm
chances may return to the higher terrain areas of southeast
Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas by late next week.
