DISCUSSION...
Strong thunderstorms are ongoing this afternoon and will continue
generally along and east of Highway 69 through mid afternoon. The
severe weather threat will increase as the storms move east. The
main threats will be up to golf ball sized hail, and wind gusts
to 70 mph. A low threat of tornadoes also exists this afternoon
mainly over western Arkansas. Excessive rainfall leading to
flooding will also be a concern where thunderstorms repeat over
the same area, primarily across far northwestern Arkansas. Winds
ahead of the approaching cold front and behind the cold front will
be gusty, with northerly post- frontal gusts between 25 and 35
mph.

EXTENDED DISCUSSION...
Dry, southerly winds will return and become breezy again Sunday
and especially on Monday ahead of another approaching cold front.
Widespread southerly gusts in excess of 30 mph will occur Monday
morning into the afternoon prior to the cold front pushing through
by Monday evening. More tranquil weather will occur Tuesday and
Wednesday before another storm system approaches late in the week
and storms return.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of the Missouri
Ozarks and extreme southeast Kansas.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

Weather hazards expected...

  Slight tornado risk.
  Slight hail risk.
  Slight thunderstorm wind damage risk.
  Elevated lightning risk.
  Elevated excessive rainfall risk
  Limited non thunderstorm wind risk.

DISCUSSION...

Showers and thunderstorms are starting to move into the area
this morning ahead of a cold front. Isolated strong to severe
storms will occur from now until 12 PM. Thunderstorms are expected
to become more widespread from about midday (12 PM) into the
evening (7-9 PM). Golf ball sized hail, damaging winds up to 70
mph, and brief tornadoes are the potential hazards within the
strongest storms. Some of these storms could produce localized
flooding especially in the eastern Ozarks.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday.

Cooler temperatures in the 60s will occur on Sunday behind the
front. A slight warm up occurs on Monday followed by high
temperatures in the 60s and 70s with lows in the 40s for the rest
of the week. Even some mid to upper 30s will be possible by
Tuesday night.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

 Spotter activation may be needed today for southeast Kansas and
southern Missouri.

west central Missouri...as well as extreme eastern Kansas.

.DAY ONE...Through tonight.

There is a low probability of widespread hazardous weather.

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Showers and storms diminish in coverage through sunrise and
  into the morning. Then additional showers and a storms
  develop this afternoon, mainly south of a Paola, KS to
  Moberly, MO line.

- A strong cold front moves through with gusty northwesterly
  winds developing behind it from late this afternoon through
  the overnight hours. Wind gusts of 35-40 mph are possible.

- Overall, more seasonal temperatures expected Sunday through
  the end of the next week. Temperatures drop into the 30s for
  some areas Wednesday morning, leading the potential for frost.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of Central Kansas,
South Central Kansas and Southeast Kansas.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Scattered storms will be possible today across the Flint Hills into
southeast Kansas. The stronger storms will be capable of small hail
along with gusty winds.

Gusty northwest winds are expected this afternoon across central
Kansas. Some locations may see gusts in the 40 to 45 mph range.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday

Storms will return to the forecast for Wednesday night through
Thursday night.
