...Localized Ice Jam Flooding Possible Along the Platte and Loup
River Systems Through Early Week...

Continued well-above normal temperatures (especially through
Monday) will cause increasing ice melt and movement along the
Platte, North Loup, Middle Loup, South Loup and Loup Rivers in
central and south central Nebraska. This could result in the
possible formation of localized ice jams. Although not a
certainty, should any ice jams happen to develop, water levels
could fluctuate as much as 1 to 3 feet in a very short time,
causing flooding with little, if any notice. This is especially
true for known ice jam prone locations.

If any ice jam flooding is observed over the next few days along
the Platte or Loup River systems in central and south central
Nebraska, please report it immediately to the National Weather
Service in Hastings, Nebraska.

309 AM CST Mon Feb 9 2026

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of north central
Kansas, along with south central Nebraska counties that reside
mainly south of the Platte River.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

- Near-critical to critical fire weather concerns this afternoon:
Due to the combination of winds gusting at least 15-20 MPH and
relative humidity falling to at least as low as 15-20 in the
presence of unseasonably-warm temperatures, at least near-critical
fire weather conditions are likely this afternoon across the
entire area. However, of overall-greatest fire weather concern are
Rooks, Osborne and Mitchell counties in Kansas, which appear to
carry the highest likelihood for winds to gust at least 25 MPH
for at least three hours. As a result, a Red Flag Warning is in
effect this afternoon for those three counties.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.

The probability for widespread hazardous weather is low.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for most counties in
central and south central Nebraska that reside along the Platte,
North Loup, Middle Loup, South Loup and Loup Rivers.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

- Near-critical to critical fire weather concerns this afternoon:
Due to the combination of winds gusting at least 20 MPH and

weather conditions are likely this afternoon across the entire

carry the highest likelihood for winds to gust around 25 MPH for
at least three hours. As a result, a Red Flag Warning is in effect

Unseasonably-warm temperatures will cause continued, steady ice
melt and ice movement along the Platte and Loup River systems,
along with the possibility of localized flooding from ice jams.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.

Through at least Tuesday, ice will continue to melt and move
downstream through the Platte and Loup River systems, perhaps
causing localized ice jam flooding.

Prepare for quick increases in water levels.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.

Very high to extreme fire danger is expected across eastern Nebraska

extra caution to avoid starting fires and carefully monitor recently
