RELATIVE HUMIDITY...

The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has
issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity,
which is in effect from noon to 8 PM CDT Friday. A Fire Weather
Watch has also been issued. This Fire Weather Watch for wind and
low relative humidity is in effect from Saturday afternoon
through Saturday evening.

* AFFECTED AREA...In Kansas, Fire Weather Zones 025, 057, 060,
  102, 103, 104 and 105. In Missouri, Fire Weather Zones 001,
  002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 011, 012, 013, 014, 020, 021, 022,
  028, 029, 030, 037 and 043.

* TIMING...For the Red Flag Warning, from noon to 8 PM CDT
  Friday. For the Fire Weather Watch, from Saturday afternoon
  through Saturday evening.

* IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread
  quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

* WIND... Northerly sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts
  around 25 mph on Friday. Southerly sustained winds of 15 to 20
  mph with gusts around 25 mph on Saturday.

* HUMIDITY... Lowest afternoon and evening humidity of 15 to 25
  percent Friday and Saturday.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT

A storm system will drive a strong cold front across the area
Thursday this afternoon. Strong to severe storms are possible
along the front. There is a Marginal Risk or level 1 of 5 south
of a Williamsburg Iowa to Rockford Illinois line. There is also a
Slight Risk, or Level 2 of 5 for severe storms in northeast
Missouri, far southeast Iowa, and west-central Illinois for
counties south and east of the Quad Cities. Large hail will be the
primary threat, with a secondary threat of damaging winds.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY

An elevated fire weather risk will be in place Friday and Saturday
due to dry conditions and gusty winds.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for central Illinois, east
central Illinois and west central Illinois.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected through late evening,
with a weakening trend as they advance south of I-70 with time. The
greatest risk for severe storms is in areas from about Springfield
and Peoria eastward. Very large hail and damaging winds are the main
concerns, though a few tornadoes are also possible through mid
evening.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.

A hard freeze is likely Friday night. Early emerging sensitive
vegetation should be covered for protection.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible Monday night and Tuesday. The
severe weather risk appears low at this time.

DISCUSSION...

Hot, dry, and windy conditions will result in an Elevated to
locally Significant fire weather risk today.

Southwest winds will gust to 30 to 40 mph across extreme western
Missouri and southeast Kansas this afternoon.

Showers and a few thunderstorms will move through the area
tonight. There is a low chance for isolated severe thunderstorm to
produce quarter sized hail.

Elevated fire weather conditions continue Friday through Sunday.

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Record high temperatures expected today. The daily maximum for
  the Kansas City area will easily be broken. The warmest March
  temperature for KC is also in play.

- Southwesterly wind gusts of 40+ mph are expected today ahead
  of strong cold front. Then, winds become
  northerly/northeasterly behind the front with additional wind
  gusts to 40 mph possible through the late evening and
  overnight hour. This will also lead to elevated fire weather
  conditions across the area today.

- A strong cold front will move through the area this evening,
  with showers and storms developing along and behind the
  front. A strong storm with marginal hail and wind gusts can`t
  be ruled out.

- From the furnace on Thursday, to the freezer on Saturday
  morning. Low temperatures bottom out in the 20s to low 30s.
  Folks with agricultural/horticultural interest will need to
  protect sensitive vegetation that has emerged early this
  spring.
