and there could be minor tree damage as a result of the wind.

concern.

Overnight tonight, light to moderate rain will develop and spread
over Anchorage, the Mat Valley and southern Susitna Valley. The
most likely area for freezing rain will be from Houston north to
Willow before temperatures warm.
Rain falling onto roadways with blocked or frozen drainage may cause
ponding and localized flooding. Hydroplaning is likely in areas

449 PM AKST Thu Jan 15 2026
...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON...
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall and frozen ground
surfaces is possible.
* WHERE...The following area, Southern Kenai Mtns. This includes the
city of Seward.
* WHEN...Through Friday afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff from rainfall, frozen ground surfaces,
and snowmelt may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams,
and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur
in poor drainage and urban areas. Snow covered storm drains will
exacerbate any ponding on roadways.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- An atmospheric river will bring warmer temperatures and heavy
rainfall at lower elevations to the eastern Kenai Peninsula,
including Seward. The long stretch of cold weather has
resulted in frozen ground surfaces which will allow for
increased runoff concerns. Up to several inches of rainfall
is expected and will lead to ponding on roadways and
localized flooding in low-lying areas and areas where storm
drains remain covered with snow. Expect rises on area creeks
and rivers.
- Http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
- Storm drains should be cleared of snow as much as possible.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.
Stay tuned to further developments by listening to your local radio,
television, or NOAA Weather Radio for further information.
