PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN 520 PM CST THU MAR 1 2012 ...EF-2 TORNADO CONFIRMED IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY... ...MICROBURST WITH 80 TO 85 MPH WINDS IN FENTRESS COUNTY... EF-2 TORNADO WITH MAXIMUM WIND SPEEDS AROUND 125 MPH TOUCHED DOWN ALONG CASTRO-PUGH RD JUST NORTH OF PLATEAU ROAD. INTERMITTENT DAMAGE CONTINUED TO THE EAST NORTHEAST FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE BEFORE THE DAMAGE BECAME CONTINUOUS ALONG CLEAR CREEK RD. HUNDREDS OF TREES WERE UPROOTED AND SNAPPED AND A HOME SUFFERED ROOF DAMAGE IN THIS AREA. THE TORNADO CONTINUED EAST NORTHEAST AND REACHED EF-2 INTENSITY IN THE RINNIE COMMUNITY ALONG HIGHWAY 127. A BRICK HOME SLID OFF ITS FOUNDATION AND WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND ANOTHER HOME LOST IT`S ENTIRE ROOF. A DOUBLE WIDE MOBILE HOME ALONG HOLLOW ROAD WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED WITH DEBRIS TOSSED HUNDREDS OF YARDS. AT LEAST A THOUSAND TREES WERE UPROOTED OR SNAPPED AROUND THIS LOCATION. THE LAST EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE WAS ALONG TODD ROAD TO THE EAST OF HIGHWAY 127. IN FENTRESS COUNTY THE NWS AND FENTRESS COUNTY EMA SURVEYED DAMAGE ALONG PRESS BEATTY ROAD IN THE FAR SOUTHEAST PART OF THE COUNTY. IT WAS DETERMINED A MICROBURST WITH MAXIMUM WINDS OF 80 TO 85 MPH OCCURRED AROUND 355 PM. DOZENS OF TREES WERE DOWNED...INCLUDING ONE WHICH CRUSHED A HOME`S GARAGE. THE MICROBURST PATH LENGTH WAS AROUND 2 MILES WITH A MAXIMUM WIDTH OF 50 YARDS. A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM SURVEY TEAM HAS CONFIRMED THAT DAMAGE OCCURRING IN EASTERN DEKALB COUNTY AND WESTERN WHITE COUNTY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON WAS CAUSED BY A TORNADO. A MAXIMUM WIND SPEED OF 90 MPH INDICATES THAT THIS TORNADO WAS AN EF1. TORNADO DAMAGE BEGAN ABOUT 1 MILE NORTHWEST OF SMITHVILLE ALONG HIGHWAY 83 AND ENDED ABOUT 7 MILES NORTHWEST OF SPARTA IN WHITE COUNTY MAKING THE DAMAGE PATH APPROXIMATELY 13 MILES. MAXIMUM PATH WIDTH WAS 200 YARDS. DAMAGE MAINLY CONSISTED OF DOZENS OF SNAPPED OR UPROOTED TREES. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE WAS LOCATED ON THE WEST SIDE OF CENTER HILL LAKE WHERE A HOME ON STILTS WAS BLOWN OVER AND DESTROYED RESULTING IN A FATALITY. OTHER DAMAGE CONSISTED OF MINOR ROOF DAMAGE AND TREES BLOWN OVER ONTO STRUCTURES. SOME SMALLER BARNS AND SHEDS WERE DAMAGED AS WELL. THERE WAS 1 CONFIRMED FATALITY AND NO OTHER KNOWN INJURIES.
