Tropical Depression in the Gulf; Severe Thunderstorms Monday

Tropical Depression Two is expected to gradually strengthen and could bring tropical storm conditions to the Florida Panhandle beginning late Monday. Areas of flash flooding will be possible through Thursday along the eastern and central Gulf Coast. Severe thunderstorms will develop and move along a cold front crossing the Upper Midwest Monday, and through the Ohio Valley/Mid-Atlantic on Tuesday. Read More >

Another Quick Shot of Snow

A quick hitting storm system brought another round of snow to the region on Thursday, February 11, 2009. The first band of snow setup across the southern Rolling Plains during the early morning hours. The area of snow then expanded to cover much of the South Plains and Rolling Plains and even parts of the southern Texas Panhandle through the remainder of the morning, before shifting slowly east of the area during the afternoon and early evening hours. Many locations across the Rolling Plains and southern South Plains received 2 to 5 inches of snow, with Aspermont recording 6 inches before all was said and done. Radar loop between 7:08 am and 8:18 am CST on February 11, 2010. The band of precipitation across the South Plain and Rolling Plains and into North Texas is snow.

The above radar animation shows an area of light to moderate snow across the South Plains region during the morning hours of February 11th. The more intense band of precipitation across North Texas generated record snows for parts of that region, including over a foot of snow (12.5 inches) at the DFW Airport.
