INFORMATION REGARDING WINTER/WIND EVENT OF 8 DEC 2009.

A POTENT UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM MOVED ACROSS THE REGION ON
TUESDAY AFTER BEING AFFECTED BY A NIGHT OF FREEZING DRIZZLE AND
FREEZING FOG WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 20S. THIN ACCUMULATIONS
OF ICE OCCURRED WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO MANY TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS AND
SLIP INJURIES.  TEMPERATURES CLIMBED ABOVE FREEZING IN MOST
LOCATIONS BETWEEN 10AM AND 11AM WITH WINDS NEAR 20 MPH IN HIGHER
GUSTS.

THE WINDS BEGAN TO INCREASE AROUND NOON BUT WERE TEMPORARILY
INTERRUPTED BY AN AREA OF PRECIPITATION WHICH MOVED OUT OF
NEW MEXICO. AFTER PASSAGE...VERY STRONG WINDS WERE EXPERIENCED
OVER MOST AREAS ON THE CAPROCK AND THE NORTHERN ROLLING
PLAINS. PLUMES OF BLOWING DUST WERE KICKED UP ACROSS THE SOUTH
PLAINS AND ROLLING PLAINS.

THE FOLLOWING WEATHER TYPES WERE REPORTED AT LUBBOCK PRESTON SMITH
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.  RAIN...FREEZING RAIN...FOG...HAZE...AND
SANDSTORM.
