Extreme Fire Weather Concerns; Severe Thunderstorms from the Plains to Mississippi Valley

Extremely critical fire weather concerns for portions of the southern High Plans as strong wind and very dry conditions could result in rapid spread of any fires. Meanwhile, severe thunderstorms are expected once again across areas of the Central and Southern Plains, then spreading in the Mississippi Valley regions on Monday. These photographs were taken by the survey team of Warning Coordination Meteorologist Barry Goldsmith and Virginia Torres (Willacy County Emergency Management) the morning after Tropical Storm Hermine punched estimated 65 to 72 mph wind gusts across central Willacy County, with Raymondville particularly hard hit as the core of Hermine sliced through around or shortly after 1 AM CDT on the 7th.
