Hundreds and Hundreds Served
Fishers, Visitors Stop by NWS Booth at TIFT 2010

Forecaster Joseph Tomaselli staffed the National Weather Service Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley booth at the 71st Annual Texas International Fishing Tournament(TIFT) held on South Padre Island July 28th through August 1st. During Sign-Up Day (July 28th) and Family Day (July 29th), an estimated 3 to 4 thousand persons visited the Convention Centre; an estimated 300 to 400 people of all ages stopped by the NWS Booth to visit with a meteorologist, pick up information about marine weather services, hurricanes, and all things weather, and see how a tornado is made (above).

We even gave away a great door prize – a fully functional NOAA Weather Radio, including the ability to crank it up when the power is gone and batteries are dead! Congratulations to Mr. Albert Ochoa of Edinburg, our random drawing winner.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our display this year. We'll see you in 2011, with even more cool stuff to show and talk about!
