Record Heat for the Intermountain West and Northern Plains; Heavy Rainfall and Severe Weather Threats

Record setting heat is expected over the next several days from the Intermountain West through the northern Plains. Furthermore, fire weather concerns increase with dry and breezy conditions. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm threats for the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, central Appalachians and Southeast today. ...INCREASED RELEASES OUT OF GARRISON DAM...

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced a 2000 cubic feet per second increase in discharge from Garrison Dam beginning today. This will put the total release from Garrison Dam at 48,000 cfs. Downstream areas, such as the Bismarck and Mandan area, will see an increase of about 0.3 feet in water levels. Missouri River levels at the Bismarck gage have been between 11.0 and 11.2 feet as of late and this new discharge suggests river stages may range as high as 11.5 ft well into the first half of November.
